۱. نقد اگر چه به زبان ساده نوشته شده باشد ولی باید در عین شفاف و روان بودن، علمی (مستند و مستدل) باشد.
۲. جامع و متناسب با کل مقاله باشد.
۳. افزون بر بیان ضعف‌ها، قوت‌ها هم بیان شود.
۴. در بیان قوت‌ها و ضعف‌ها مبالغه نشود.
۵. نقد به صورت ترجیحی باید ناظر به محتوا و بدنه مقاله باشد و می‌تواند در تکمیل نقد به ساختار و شکل مقاله هم نظر کند.
۶. نظام‌مند بودن نقد و دسته‌بندی محاسن و معایب (اشکال‌ها) از مرحجات انتخاب برترین است.
۷. نقد می‌تواند در قالب مجموعه‌ای از موارد مورد بررسی به صورت دسته‌بندی و شماره‌گذاری شده باشد و می‌تواند در قالب یک مقاله باشد ولی بهتر است در هر دو صورت شامل سه قسمت: طرح بحث (مقدمه)، بدنه و نتیجه‌گیری باشد.
